Project period: 2025
Supported by: The Asia Foundation and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
News Network, with support from The Asia Foundation and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), is implementing a three-month initiative titled “Technical Knowledge Development of Female Journalists” under the Promoting Effective, Responsive and Inclusive Governance in Bangladesh (PERI) Programme.
The project, taking place in the divisional headquarters of Dhaka and Khulna, aims to empower female journalists by enhancing their technical and professional skills. Despite their growing presence in the media, women journalists in Bangladesh continue to face significant challenges—ranging from deep-rooted cultural norms and safety concerns to limited institutional support. These barriers hinder their full participation and career progression within the industry.
In response, the project employs a comprehensive strategy that includes shifting societal attitudes, improving recruitment and retention of women in journalism, and providing focused training opportunities. By building technical capacity and strengthening professional confidence, the initiative equips women journalists to better navigate the evolving media landscape.
The overarching goal is to promote gender equality in the media sector and support women journalists as catalysts for positive social change and inclusive governance.
